Every holiday season as most of us sit down to share a warm Thanksgiving meal, hundreds of families in our community bundle up to stay warm, and stand in line outside the Kent Food Bank, waiting patiently for the doors to open. They are filled with hope that at least on this day, they will be able to give thanks with their loved ones, and not have to go hungry once again. If supplies run out, they will be turned away empty handed. Together the community can give these families a memorable Thanksgiving through the Kent Turkey Challenge.

In 2011 The Kent Food Bank lost the majority of their funding for the holiday season, deeply impacting their ability to feed the most vulnerable members of our city on Thanksgiving.

Torklift Central responded by organizing the first Annual Kent Turkey Challenge.

The Annual Kent Turkey Challenge is a friendly competition between local businesses and organizations to see who can collect and raise the most food and monetary donations for the Kent Food Bank. One hundred percent of proceeds are given to local Kent families that are battling hunger and poverty during the holidays.

A Thanksgiving Meal Goes A Long Way

Community Members Of All Ages Rely On The Kent Food Bank

Over the past three years, donations to the Kent Food Bank from the Annual Kent Turkey Challenge total $34,500 and 6,400 pounds of food, feeding over 4,500 families that would otherwise go without a Thanksgiving meal.

This year, Torklift Central asks for your support to make the 4th Annual Kent Turkey Challenge the most effective to date. As a community, this is an opportunity for us to make a lasting positive impact in the lives of families that are searching for hope during the holiday season.

The Kent City Council supports the Turkey Challenge by composing and reading a proclamation on October 21st. The Kent Reporter is sponsoring the event by running a weekly ad with the names of the leading contributors to the Challenge in the newspaper.

Torklift Central lists every contributing organization under the leader board on the Kent Turkey Challenge webpage here, our social media accounts and weekly email blasts that showcase the leaders in the Challenge.

With your help, we can move closer to reaching our goal that no family in our community should have to go hungry on Thanksgiving.

With your help we can reach our goal that every family in our community will be able to share a special holiday meal.
